AI call agents
Ready-to-deploy agents for common call types, and custom agents designed around your processes and systems, each with clear rules for when a person takes over.
Overview
What is an AI call agent?
An AI call agent is software that answers or makes phone calls using natural speech. Intelox offers two kinds: ready-to-deploy agents with preconfigured call flows for common tasks, and custom agents designed around your processes and connected to your systems. Both follow rules you approve and hand the call to a person when a situation needs one.
Agents suit calls that follow a recognisable pattern: after-hours enquiries, bookings, first-line questions and lead qualification. Anything outside the rules you set is passed to your team with a summary, so callers don't have to repeat themselves.
Standard vs custom
Start with a ready-to-deploy agent and move to a custom build later, or design a custom agent from day one.
| Consideration | Standard agent | Custom agent |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Common call types with a predictable flow | Processes specific to your business, or calls that need your systems |
| Call flows | Preconfigured scripts, adjusted to your details | Designed with you, including edge cases and exceptions |
| Connections to your systems | Limited to supported standard connections | Connected to the systems agreed in scope, such as a CRM or booking tool |
| Hand-over to people | Standard transfer and message-taking rules | Rules designed around your team, hours and priorities |
| Time to launch | Faster, with fewer decisions to make | Longer, as it includes design, integration and testing |
| Changes over time | Adjust scripts and settings | Evolve the agent as your processes change |
Use cases
Answer common questions, take messages and route complex issues to the right person.
Ask the questions your sales team needs and pass qualified enquiries on with a summary.
Offer available times, confirm bookings and handle reschedules outside business hours.
Make approved outbound calls, such as appointment or payment reminders, within agreed rules.
Capabilities
The exact capabilities of your agent are confirmed in scope before build. We don't promise features that your phone system or data can't support.
Integrations
Specific platforms and partner logos will be listed here once they are confirmed.
Sample call
An after-hours call to a fictional plumbing business. The agent recognises an urgent situation, collects the essentials and transfers the caller to a person.
This is an illustrative script read aloud by your browser's text-to-speech. It is not a recording of an Intelox agent. Approved recordings will replace it.
AgentThanks for calling Harbour Plumbing. You're speaking with the after-hours assistant. I can book a visit or connect you with the on-call plumber. How can I help?
CallerHi. There's water coming through our kitchen ceiling. I think a pipe has burst upstairs.
AgentThat sounds urgent. Have you been able to turn the water off at the mains?
CallerNot yet. I'm not sure where it is.
AgentIt's usually near the front boundary, close to the water meter. While you check, I'll alert the on-call plumber. Can I confirm the address?
CallerTwelve Wattle Street, Ashfield.
AgentThank you. I've sent your details through, and I'm transferring you to the on-call plumber now. If the call drops, they'll ring you straight back on this number.
Call transferred to a person, with a summary and the address sent ahead. This is an example of a human-escalation rule. Harbour Plumbing is fictional; this script illustrates the kind of call flow a custom agent can handle.

FAQs
A standard agent uses a preconfigured call flow for a common task and is quicker to launch. A custom agent is designed around your processes and can connect to the systems agreed in scope, such as your CRM or booking tool.
The agent follows the hand-over rules you approve: it can transfer the call, take a message or arrange a call-back, and it sends your team a summary so the caller doesn't have to repeat themselves.
We recommend agents identify themselves as automated assistants at the start of the call. The greeting is agreed with you during design.
Recording and transcription are configured per project, with appropriate caller notices. How recordings are stored and for how long is set out in your agreement and our data handling statement.
It depends on the type of agent and the systems involved. Standard agents are faster; custom agents include design, integration and testing. We give you a timeline after discovery.
